The Project
Designer Shade Solutions was commissioned to enhance the sunken terrace of a private residence in Kensington, creating a dedicated outdoor space for cigar smoking that could be enjoyed in greater comfort.
Tailored Shading for a Sunken Terrace
The brief called for a discreet, practical shading solution that would complement the property’s traditional brickwork and existing terrace design. DSS installed retractable awnings above the sunken seating area, providing adjustable overhead cover while allowing the space to remain open when desired.
A Seamless Fit with the Property
Finished in a neutral tone, the awnings sit neatly against the surrounding brickwork, with their compact housings maintaining a clean, understated appearance when retracted. The installation makes effective use of the enclosed terrace layout, providing overhead shade without permanently enclosing the space.
Extending Comfort Beyond the Summer Months
An infrared heater was also incorporated into the installation, helping to extend the usability of the terrace during cooler conditions. Together, the retractable awnings and heating create a more comfortable and versatile outdoor retreat, tailored to the homeowner’s requirements.
